Richards Bay Looks Seawards
The area of the Mzingazi Canal at Meerensee is set to
become transformed into an exciting multimillion-rand hotel
and casino resort. An area of some fifteen hectares has
been identified as the site for the Umfolozi Casino, which
the owners want to move there from Empangeni. The casino is
to have 300 slot machines and 14 tables, which the planned
hotel is to be a 102-room Metcourt Lodge.
That's not all for this burgeoning town. The earthworks are
well underway for the new Protea Hotel, on the site
overlooking the small-craft harbor's yacht basin and some
beautiful beaches. This is to be a R25 million investment
consisting of a 75-room, 4-storey hotel which should be
ready to open its doors in December 2007.
And there's more! City Lodge has submitted pland for a 90-
room, 3-storey development in the central business
district. The Akani Richards Hotel has also recently added
35 rooms to its 4-star hotel in Meerensee, including eight
exclusive luxury suites for business women travelling
alone. It is presently Zululand's largest hotel with 135
rooms.
Richards Bay is certainly buzzing!
