ICC - Now Super Big, and Ready for Durban's Indaba
THE R460m ICC Arena, accommodating some 10 000 spectators,
has been inaugurated, reports Natalia Thomson of Travel
News Now. The new arena, which will provide Durban with
increased conference and exhibition facilities, covering
about 2 500 sqm, will be handed over temporarily to SA
Tourism for Indaba on May 6-9. The official opening of the
structure will take place in March 2007.
The ICC has been the venue for over 125 international
conferences or 160 000 delegates and over 855 000 hotel bed
nights, excluding pre- and post-conference tours.
Developments such as the ICC, uShaka Marine World and the
new airport at La Mercy, says Ethekwini deputy mayor, Logie
Naidoo, are essential to attracting and entertaining high
profile delegates.The new Arena makes the ICC the biggest
conference facility in the country.
