'Winter' Wonders in KZNWhat a weekend for KZN - it really is the only place to be!
The little silver monsters of the deep, those millions of
sardines, were this morning reported to be surfaced on the
east coast once more. It seems that the Sardine Season is
far from over. For further updates as to numbers and places
to see the Sardine Run, please contact the Sardine Hotline
on 082 284 9495.
Then there was the prestigious, glamorous and glittering
occasion of the Durban July, the premier horse racing event
in the country on Saturday. Even early estimates put the
attendance figures at over 60 000 spectators. Many watched
the horse races, but there is a suspicion that even greater
numbers of eyes were on the fashions - all flowers,
feathers and skin!
The Vocacom Beach Africa festival is also in full swing on
the Durban beaches and the beachfront is buzzing with
Durban's superb winter weather. Restaurants are full and in
between the smell of sizzling steaks at the fast food
outlets, is the smell of suntan lotion and ice cream - the
best place to be in winter. Again it is estimated at this
early stage that at least 1 million people will be enjoying
themselves at the events over the next week or more.
For those who like the 'high' life, the Mountain Club of
South Africa's annual July Camp is also running up at
Highmoor in the Drakensberg over the next two weeks. A
light sprinkling of snow on the top of the escarpment is a
spectacular sight to those hiking in the slightly lower -
and warmer - regions of our mountainous World Heritage site.
